Six injured when car hits van carrying prison inmates

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. -- Six people were injured this morning when a car hit a van carrying prison inmates near Peters Creek in Nicholas County.

Aramand Brouillard, of Belva, was driving on W.Va. 39 near the intersection of Peters Creek with a vanload of inmates from the Mount Olive Correctional Complex at about 7:45 a.m. when he was hit head-on by a 2007 Volkswagen Passat driven by William Hanshaw of Summersville, according to a press release from the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department.

Hanshaw hit a tractor-trailer before slamming into the van, according to the release.

Hanshaw, Brouillard and all four inmates traveling in the van were injured. Hanshaw and one inmate were taken to hospitals in Charleston, while Brouillard and three inmates were taken to Summersville Regional Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation.
