Johnny Lenwood Hill

Johnny Lenwood Hill, born Oct. 26, 1929, and 84 years old, of Seth, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rosalie (Aleshire) Hill; sons, Douglas (Brenda) Hill of Bloomingrose, Steven (Sue) Hill of Stanley, N.C., Gregory (Cindy) Hill of Richburg, S.C., and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hill of Rock Hill, S.C.; daughter, April McComas of Tornado; grandchildren, George (VanDale) Hill of Madison, Rusty Hill of Bloomingrose, Zachary Hill of Richburg, S.C., Karson Hill of Richburg, S.C., Samantha Hill of Rock Hill, S.C., Logan Hill of Rock Hill, S.C., Cory McComas of Tornado and Shannon McComas of Tornado; great-grandchildren, Clinton Hill of Seth and Madilyn Hill of Madison; sister-in-law, Barbara Sue Hill of Meadow Bridge; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Teresa Hudnall for all her help and care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. James Richard Hill and Cenia Salome (Foley) Hill of Beckley, and brother, Donald Lee Hill of Meadow Bridge.

He graduated from Sherman High School, Seth, in 1947. He served in the Vietnam War and retired as a master sergeant from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years on April 30, 1971. He retired from the West Virginia State of Emergency Services on Sept. 30, 1995, after working 23-and-a-half years. He graduated from the West Virginia Institute of Technology, Montgomery, with a degree in history and government. He was a member of Daniel Boone Post No. 5578 VFW, Madison, the American Legion and several organizations.

He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, garden, paint, read, work crossword puzzles, sing karaoke and tell jokes. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Troy Howerton officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 5578, Madison.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the funeral home.
