Capitol workers told to watch for snakes

By Staff reports

General Services Division groundskeepers at the state Capitol Complex were on the alert Wednesday, after a state employee reported seeing a copperhead snake near the Building 5 high-rise office Tuesday evening.

“We’re keeping our eyes open, but we have not seen it again,” Administration spokeswoman Diane Holley-Brown said Wednesday evening.

She said groundskeepers were advised to keep a lookout for snakes during their normal duties Wednesday.

This is not the first incident involving snakes on the Capitol grounds this summer, according to Protective Services Division monthly activity reports.

In June, officers responded to separate incidents involving blacksnakes in the Capitol parking building, as well as a snake found in the south portico of the main Capitol building.
