Herd’s Grooms arrested for burglary, 3 misdemeanors
The Marshall athletic department announced that running back Kevin Grooms has been dismissed from the football team early Saturday morning.
The Herald Dispatch reported that the Huntington Police Department arrested Grooms on a felony charge and three misdemeanor charges and was booked into Western Regional Jail at 11:05 a.m. Saturday. According to courthouse documents, Grooms was arrested for burglary — a felony — domestic assault, petit larceny and fleeing on foot.
This is Grooms’ third arrest in the last 16 months. He was arrested in November, the same night Marshall defeated East Carolina 59-28 to win the Conference USA East Division title, on charges of domestic battery and obstructing an officer. Prior to that, Grooms was arrested in April 2013 for underage consumption and obstructing after giving police officers a false name.
The redshirt junior rushed for 503 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games last season and was projected to be the starting running back for the Herd in the 2014 season.
