Kathleen Ann Holmes

Kay Holmes lost a battle but won the war with a long illness at home on Saturday, July 26, 2014. She passed from this world to her new home with her family and friends that preceded her and waits there watching over the rest of us.

Mrs. Holmes was born July 11, 1934 in Burnsville, WV and today is reunited with her daddy, Raymond Hall; mother, Hellen Hicks Hall (old gran); and baby brother, David Ray Hall.

Miss Dupont 1951 and a 1952 graduate of Dupont High School, Kay was named 2012 Dupont High School Alumna of the year. Over all her years she always maintained the Panther spirit, loved and served her community. It was her pleasure to serve many years on the Belle Town Council, Dupont High School Boosters Club, Belle Woman's Club and Belle Garden Club.

A retired school teacher from Dupont Jr. High School, her legacy lives on in the lives of the thousands of young people that shared a part of their lives with her. She remembered every one of her kids, where they sat, who their friends were, what grade they made, what time of day she had them in class from her blessed 23 years with them. She maintained a special place in her heart for the young ladies that were her privilege to share time with as the majorette sponsor for many years.

She loved her country, state, community and family to the very end. KK is survived by her husband of a short 62 years, Jack Holmes of Belle; her son and loving caretaker, Charles J. Holmes II, his wife, Kim Holmes and granddaughter, Emily Paige Holmes all of Belle; son, John A. Holmes, his wife, Debbie Holmes and grandson, John Tyler Holmes all of Cedar Grove. Special granddaughter, Becky Reiner of Minneapolis, Minn. and special sister, Dottie Dent Patton of Deltona, Fla.; sister-in-law, Fran Ingrahm of Blue Ridge, Ga. and sister-in-law, Ann Holmes of Huntington and the entire Holmes first cousins family group. Her family and community were the sunshine of her life, especially her grandchildren and her husband, Jack, the flame of her heart, who remained hand in hand to the very end.

Mrs. Holmes and her family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Kanawha Hospice staff, the CAMC Cancer Center staff, CAMC Memorial Division 3 North Nurses and staff and all those people of the Dupont Panther Nation that shared their lives with Kay. Our community will miss her.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 at Fidler and Frame Funeral Home, Belle with the Rev. David Jones officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 28 at the funeral home.
