Two in serious condition after accidental shooting
TWILIGHT, W.Va. — While attempting to break his rifle by beating it on the ground, a Boone County man allegedly accidentally shot his mother and injured himself, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
Jason Mooney, 37, and his mother Phyllis Mooney, 63, were in emergency surgery and serious condition at CAMC General in Charleston on Tuesday morning, according to Chief Deputy Chad Barker.
Barker said the two were arguing before the shooting.
When the .30- 30 caliber rifle discharged, Phyllis Mooney was shot in the lower abdomen, while her son was hit in the leg.
Although the shooting appears to be accidental, arrests could be pending, Barker said.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at a residence along Mable Lane in the Twilight area.
