Hagerstown pounds Power 10-6
The West Virginia Power fell to the Hagerstown Suns 10-6 at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday evening after a strong start.
The Power got on the board right away when Austin Meadows blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, but the Suns responded with two runs in the second on an RBI hit by David Masters to tie the game before pulling away with six runs in the third.
In the third, Drew Ward doubled in a run and Wilmer Difo hit a two-run home run to highlight the inning. The Suns tacked on two more in the fifth on RBI base knocks from Rafael Bautista and Narciso Mesa.
West Virginia fought back with two runs in the seventh on a Chris Diaz RBI single and a JaCoby Jones sacrifice fly followed by one run in the ninth, but that would be all for the West Virginia offense.
Dovydas Neverauskas (5-10) was charged with the loss while Lucas Giolito (8-2) earned the win and Sam Johns (2) tallied the save. Chris Diaz went 3 for 4 with an RBI in the loss.
West Virginia hosts the Suns again at 7 tonight. Luis Heredia will take the hill against Hagerstown’s Wirkin Estevez.
