Charles W. Hoffman

Mr. Charles William Hoffman, 66, lifelong resident of Red House, passed away Aug. 4, 2014, at home after a long illness and a very blessed life.

He was the only son of Charles Ray and Gaynell (Casto) Hoffman, a faithful member of Wade Chapel United Methodist Church and a fourth-generation farmer who dearly loved and cherished his family farm.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Terry; daughter, Erin Ray Wyant (Richie); son, Travis William Hoffman (Paige); daughter, Billie Sue Hoffman (Anthony); and sister, Nancy Hull (James), all of Red House. He was truly blessed with four granddaughters, the light of his life, who filled his home daily with love, Lilly Mae Wyant, Zoey Gaynell Hoffman, Grace Ellen Hoffman and Stella Deen Wyant, and a host of family and friends.

A U.S. Army veteran and retired Monsanto employee, he truly lived a 15-year miracle after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

He enjoyed his morning coffee with dear friends and local farmers, solving the problems of the world at the "Possum" Club, located in the back of Casto's Farm Store.

He loved gospel music and took many exotic trips with a special group of church friends. He enjoyed hunting trips to his camp in the mountains and fishing trips on the Cranberry River, but always loved to return back home, his favorite place.

A tribute to the life of Charles "Bill" Hoffman will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at Wade Chapel United Methodist Church, Red House, with Pastors Wayne Hooper, David Peters, John Mason and Aaron Gooden officiating. Burial will follow in Wade Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, Poca. They will also receive friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

The family would like to thank Hospice Care of Charleston, Dr. Suzanne Cole and nurse Heather for all of their care.

In lieu of flowers, please make large donations to the Wade Chapel Building Fund, c/o Kathy Brown, 4601 McLane Pike, Red House, WV 25168.
