Charleston woman wanted for burglary

Police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of a Charleston woman who they say robbed a residence in South Hills last month.

Melinda Green, 46, allegedly stole thousands of dollars worth of items from an Oakmont Drive residence on July 24, according to Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives for the Charleston Police Department.

On Monday, Cooper described Green, along with Charleston resident Lannie Shaffer, 23, as a person of interest in another robbery in South Hills on July 20.

Green’s vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring with a tan roof and license plate number 7YG 439, was seen leaving the scene, according to Cooper.

“That case is still under investigation and clearly they would be considered suspects in that case,” he said.

Several home burglaries have occurred in South Hills since mid-July.

Cooper said he believes Green and Shaffer have been involved in those and other burglaries outside of South Hills.

“The vehicle has been spotted in several different areas around the valley,” he said. “I believe they are possibly active in criminal activity not only in Charleston but in other parts of the region, so hopefully this will start a chain reaction where numerous cases get solved, and just puts a stop to the burglaries.”

Cooper advised residents with information to call 911.
