Retired federal employees

Open stage/coffee house

Unity of Kanawha Valley will be home to the monthly Open Stage and Coffee House with host Ron Sowell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Musicians are welcome to come and share their talents in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Performers sign up at 7 p.m. General admission is $5. Admission for performers, seniors and children is $2. Various coffees, teas, soft drinks and homemade treats are available at a small cost. Unity of Kanawha Valley is located at 804 Myrtle Road, corner of Bridge and Myrtle Roads.

Cars for Kids cruise in

Children’s Home Society of West Virginia and Quaker Steak and Lube invite car enthusiasts to the first “Cars for Kids Cruise In” to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15 at Quaker Steak and Lube, 2931 Mountaineer Blvd., off Corridor G. The registration fee is $10 and includes a free t-shirt for each registrant. The proceeds will benefit the programs of the Children’s Home Society’s Charleston location. Cars will be judged by decade beginning with cars from the 1940’s. 4-H frozen food sale

The Putnam County 4-H Leaders Association, in cooperation with Wilson’s Zero Foods, is taking orders for the Fall “truck-load” frozen food sale. Items include chicken breasts, stir fry vegetables, Belgian waffles, blackberries and more. Proceeds will be used for camp scholarships for children, 4-H Leaders’ enrichment training, and other 4-H club program supplies. Order forms are available at the WVU Extension Office, second floor of the Courthouse in Winfield or from any 4-H club member of leader. Orders are being accepted through Sept. 2. Payment will be due Sept. 17 when orders are picked up from the truck on the Courthouse parking lot in Winfield. A check made payable to “Putnam County 4-H Leaders Association” for the amount of the order will be collected at the truck between 5 and 7 p.m. For information, call the WVU Extension 4-H Office at 304-586-0217.
