WVU student stabbed to death in bar
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- A West Virginia University student died from his injuries after he was stabbed inside a bar in downtown Morgantown early Thursday.
Devonte Waites, 19, of Fairmont, was stabbed in the abdomen at Bent Willey’s, located at 471 Chestnut St., just before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the Morgantown Police Department.
Waites was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police have retrieved various video surveillance images and have interviewed multiple witnesses, they said in a news release. Morgantown Police and the U.S. Marshal’s Mountain State Fugitive Task Force are continuing the investigation.
WVU released a statement on Thursday about Waites’ death, saying, “the entire university community is saddened by the tragic death today of one of our own.”
