Anniversaries/homecomings

Spirit Life Fellowship, 137 6th Street, Dunbar, will be celebrating 20 years as a ministry Aug. 22-24. The celebration will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday at the Appalachian Power Park for Faith and Family Night. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased through Youth Pastor Jim Fershee. On Aug. 23 at 11 a.m., there will be a picnic at the Wine Cellar Park, 1101 Dutch Hollow Road, Dunbar, in the large shelter. Bring a covered dish or dessert to share. Note: No water guns or water balloons are permitted. On Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. there will be a Celebration Service at the church with the Founder of Spirit Life Fellowship, with the Rev. Michael Dent as speaker. At 6 p.m. on Aug. 24, the celebration will climax with the Senior Pastor Bishop Craig A. Cook as the speaker. Refreshments will follow the evening service. Liberty Missionary Baptist Church will have Pastor Dr. Jerry R. Staples’ Second Anniversary Celebration at 7 p.m. nightly beginning Wednesday, Aug. 20, with guest speaker, the Rev. Lloyd Allan Hill, pastor of The Father’s House Missionary Baptist Church. Services continue Thursday with guest speaker, the Rev. Walter Leach, pastor of St. Paul Baptist Temple, Beckley; and Friday, First Lady Cassandra Staples Night, with guest speaker, Minister Gloria Allen of Welcome Baptist Church, Beckley. The Dry Branch Free Will Baptist, Cabin Creek Road, will celebrate its 130th homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 17, beginning with Sunday School 10 a.m. and the morning worship at 11 a.m., followed by dinner and special afternoon singing by Chuck Compton.

King of Glory International Ministries will have the Sixth Pastoral Anniversary for Apostle Tina M. Beatty at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at the church, 302 Delaware Ave. Prophet Carlotta Lynch of Morgantown will speak.

Greater Emmanuel Gospel Tabernacle, 1546 Third Ave., is selling T-shirts for its homecoming picnic that will be held at noon on Aug. 23 at the Shawnee Park, Shelter No. 2. A birthday celebration in honor of Pastor Bishop Norman B. Jones Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 24, and the guest speaker will be Overseer Bishop Gregory Fly of Grace New Covenant Apostolic Church, founder of KBIF Inc., Columbus, Ohio. Miscellaneous

St. John’s Episcopal Church, Quarrier Street and Leon Sullivan Way, will have their Inaugural Treasures on Earth Antiques and Fine Collectibles Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Beni Kedem Temple, located next door to the Charleston Civic Center where the Antiques Roadshow will be underway. Hundreds of fine items are available including furniture, artwork, leaded glass, linens and much more. A 1967 Cadillac will be available by silent auction with a starting bid of $7,000. The Achievers Class of Fifth Avenue Church of God will open its Clothes Closet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 16. Clothes are free to families and individuals in need with no questions asked. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at 520 Kanawha Boulevard has a discussion group that meets for one hour every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. It is an open forum, inviting all to participate. The guest speaker Sunday, Aug. 17, will discuss a Time Bank System as described by John David. The point is to keep a record of the hours spent by one person (#1) used to aid another (#2). Those hours are therefore owed in return to #1. So “salaries” are in hours, not dollars.

An evening of Jewish-Christian-Islamic dialogue is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25 by The Root And The Branch Inc. at the Columbia Gas Transmission Cafeteria. The subject for discussion is “Forgiveness.” Panelists include Rabbi Victor Urecki, B’ Nai Jacob Synagogue; Monsignor P. Edward Sadie; Basilica of The Co-Cathedral of The Sacred Heart; the Rev. Covenant Theology’s Second Eighth Week World Wide Apostolic Assembly will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Switzer Center, 900 Griffin Drive. Apostle Nellie Ford will speak on “The New Covenant: God’s Covenant Promise to You.”

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 2440 U.S. 60 in Hurricane, will host a fall festival from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 20. The festival will include crafters, bake sale, hot dogs, kids’ games, live music, apple butter-making, books, clowns, cakewalk and flea market. The event will be held indoors.

Music

A Singing Jubilee will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Rensford Baptist Church on Campbell’s Creek.

The Believers will sing at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Elk River Community Center in Elkview. They will sing at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Simmons Creek United Christian Church at Belle and then at 6 p.m. Sunday at Sand Run Gospel Tabernacle at Young’s Bottom north of Elkview.

Roger and Ginger Breeden will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Parsons Chapel, Sixth Avenue.

A gospel sing featuring the BrighterSide Quartet and The Believers will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Elk River Community Center in Elkview. There is no admission charge. However, donations will be accepted. Concessions will be sold.

Elder Arlester Washington and The Anointed Central Kentucky Mass Choir from Lexington, Kentucky will be in concert at 3 p.m. Aug. 31 at Nondenominational Fellowship Pentecostal Ministries, 1441 3rd Ave. Pastor is Debbie Thomas.

The Spiritual Harmonizers will be in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Levi Missionary Baptist Church for their annual Men’s Day program.

Virgil Parsons will be featured at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Elkview Community Center and at 6 p.m. Sunday at Parchment Valley Baptist Church.

An Outdoor Gospel Sing will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Holley Memorial Baptist Church, 245 Pleasants Valley Road, Spring Hill Mountain, South Charleston. Singers include the Rev. Jimmy McKnight, Calvary Why, Joey Crawford, Huffman Family, Harbor Masters, and Valorie Higginbotham. Bring lawn chairs. Free hotdogs, drinks and chips will be available. There will be a climbing slide for the kids.

Revivals

Spirit Life Fellowship Church, 137 6th Street, Dunbar, will continue a miracle, healing and deliverance revival Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 17, at the church. The schedule is: Saturday, 7 p.m., the speaker will be Evangelist Virgie Phillips of Virginia; Sunday, 11 a.m., the morning worship speaker will be First Lady of Spirit Life Fellowship Minister Belinda “BeKay” Cook. Evening worship begins at 6 p.m. and speaker will be Evangelist Virgie Phillips of Virginia. Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church located at 7015 Kanawha St., St. Albans, will celebrate their 5th Annual Women’s Day during the 11 a.m. morning worship service on Sunday, Aug. 17. The guest speaker will be Victoria Wilson.

The Men’s Day Committee of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1108 Second Ave., will climax their Annual Men’s Day program at the morning and afternoon service on Sunday, Aug. 17. The Men’s Day Choir will provide music for both services. A special guest speaker for the afternoon service at 3:30 p.m. will be the Rev. Dr. Charles Grays, Pastor of Zion Baptist Church of Parkersburg.

Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church will have Sunday school at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Pastor Jason C. Black will preach at the 11a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday services at the church. Team Redeamed will sing at the 6 p.m. service. Choir practice starts at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The Prayer Meeting and Youth Group meetings will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
