Freshman tackle gets OK to enroll at WVU
Freshman offensive tackle Dontae Angus has been approved by the NCAA to enroll at West Virginia and has been cleared to practice, school officials confirmed Wednesday.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pounder from Philadelphia was on WVU’s camp roster, but didn’t arrive or participate because of his academic questions. He is a three-star recruit who was a surprise commitment to the Mountaineers on signing day in February after earlier committing to Florida. He is expected to arrive at school today.
The addition of Angus and, earlier this week, cornerback Jaylon Myers brings West Virginia to the limit of 85 scholarship players for the first time in coach Dana Holgorsen’s tenure.
It also leaves only two recruits unaccounted for from the signing class. Junior college tackle Justin Scott failed to meet entrance requirements. Freshman receiver Jacob McCrary, who also failed to qualify, has enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Another signee, lineman Walter Rauterkus, left the program after going through summer conditioning.
