Saturday music and art festival honors Diamond Teeth Mary

Charleston’s Diablo Blues Band is among the performers at the fifth annual Diamond Teeth Mary Blues & Arts Festival Saturday in Huntington.

The fifth annual Diamond Teeth Mary Blues & Art Festival runs 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Harris Riverfront Park in Huntington. Charleston’s The Diablo Blues Band (pictured), Tee Dee Young, Ray Fuller & The Bluesrockers, Gary Applegate, the Inbred Cornbread Band, Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues, Chris Sutton and Mojo Bones all perform at the free event. There is also a harmonica jam as well as a youth art competition, children’s games and arts and crafts booths. The festival honors “Diamond Teeth” Mary McClain, a Huntington native and the half-sister of Bessie Smith, who performed with the likes of Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Nat King Cole and Duke Ellington.
