Two slashed near Town Center Mall; homeless man charged
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A homeless man is in custody for stabbing two people Friday night near the Middle East Market in downtown Charleston, police said.
Jarvis Lamar Mitchell, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of malicious wounding early Saturday morning, said Lt. Steve Cooper of the Charleston Police Department.
The two victims — a male and female — ran to the Outback Steakhouse in the Charleston Town Center Mall to call 911 just after 11 p.m., according to CPD Lt. Scott Blankenship.
Cooper said the female victim suffered a severe laceration to her face, while the male victim sustained a severe laceration to his throat. Both victims are expected to survive, Cooper said.
Blankenship said there were “conflicting statements” about whether the victims knew the suspect or not.
Mitchell is being held in South Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bail.
