State squirrel hunting season opens Sept. 13
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia’s squirrel hunting season will open Sept. 13.
The Division of Natural Resources says hunters can expect to see squirrel numbers similar to last year’s season, based on 2013’s average hard mast crop.
The squirrel season will run through Jan. 31, 2015. The daily bag limit is six squirrels and the possession limit is 24 squirrels.
A one-day, youth-only squirrel season is set for Sept. 6. A licensed adult must accompany youth hunters under the age of 15.
DNR wildlife chief Curtis Taylor says in a news release that squirrel season is an opportunity for hunters to get back to their roots and brush up on their hunting techniques.
