CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Because of a reporter’s error, some information in a Friday story in the Gazette was attributed to the wrong Department of Environmental Protection official. Patty Hickman, interim chief of the DEP’s Division of Land Restoration, said that there are no soil cleanup standards for MCHM because so little information is available about the chemical’s human health effects. Also, DEP Division of Water and Waste Management Director Scott Mandirola said the agency doesn’t yet have a soil detection limit for MCHM but could easily calculate such a figure.
