W.Va. cites company for construction violations

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Florida-based company has agreed to pay more than $23,000 fines for violations at a construction site in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection cited MPH Hotels Inc. for 13 violations. Most of the violations involve runoff and erosion and sediment controls.

MPH Hotels is building a Hampton Inn & Suites in Parkersburg.

Garland Roberts with the DEP told media outlets MPH Hotels has complied with the agency’s orders to take corrective actions.

MPH President Michael Holtz said maintaining some of the erosion and sediment controls was difficult because of the hillside site, a cold winter and heavy rains.

Public comments on the consent order can be submitted to the DEP until Sept. 19.
