CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- A Virginia label is reissuing the late U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd's 1978 "Mountain Fiddler" album on compact disc.

County Records of Charlottesville said Tuesday the CD will be available nationally on July 27.

County Records owner Dave Freeman says the reissue project has been in the works for about 18 months.

The album features the West Virginia Democrat performing old-time and bluegrass songs on fiddle, along with Country Gentlemen band members Doyle Lawson on guitar, James Bailey on banjo and Spider Gilliam on bass.

Byrd, the longest-serving member of Congress in American history, died Monday at 92.
