The West Virginia University Board of Governors met in closed session for more than three hours Monday afternoon to discuss "personnel matters" regarding President Mike Garrison, according to board chairman Steve Goodwin.
They did not make a decision regarding Garrison's future at WVU, he said.
"We're going to wait for his report on June 6," Goodwin said on a conference call with reporters. He was referring to Garrison's response to correct institutional problems that members of an investigative panel recommended.
The panel investigated and discovered that top WVU administrators used "seriously flawed" judgment when they awarded an executive master's of business administration degree to Heather Bresch, Gov. Joe Manchin's daughter, last fall.
Goodwin said he convened Monday's meeting at the request of other Board of Governors members, who wished to discuss recent events. Goodwin would not elaborate on the personnel matters that were discussed Monday.
When asked if the discussion involved Garrison, he said, "I don't think it takes too much imagination."
Although the report did not implicate him directly, Garrison has been under pressure to resign since the report came out last month. Several students and faculty refused to shake his hand at the honors convocation Friday evening at the WVU Coliseum.
