WVU baseball: Means sharp as Mountaineers win at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. — Junior left-hander John Means threw eight shutout innings and WVU had a five-run first inning en route to a 7-0 victory over Oklahoma on Thursday evening at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Mountaineers (18-15, 3-6 Big 12) broke a six-game Big 12 losing streak after being swept by TCU and Oklahoma State in back-to-back weekends. WVU had 16 hits and did not make an error for the second-straight game.

Five West Virginia batters had multi-hit games, led by a career-high three hits off the bat of freshman designated hitter Jackson Cramer.

Today’s meeting with the Sooners will begin at 7 p.m., and will be televised on affiliates of Fox College Sports Central. The radio broadcast will be on select affiliates of the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG College.

Power baseball: West Virginia wins at Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Jerry Mulderig pitched four innings of two-hit ball against South Atlantic League foe Kannapolis and the Power scored four runs in the seventh to defeat the Intimidators (6-9) at CMC-Northeast Stadium on Thursday.

Danny Collins had two hits and Justin Maffei knocked in two runs for the Power (7-8).

The Power continues its series against Kannapolis in a 7:05 p.m. contest today.

Marshall baseball: Herd defeats WVU Tech

HUNTINGTON, W.Va — Former St. Albans player Michael Taylor struck out six and gave up one earned run in six innings and former Herbert Hoover star Corey Bird had a single, double and an RBI to help Marshall defeat WVU Tech 6-1 in college baseball action on Thursday.

Tech (14-21) and Marshall (16-20) will continue their four-game series at 3 p.m. today in Huntington.

WVU Tech softball: Golden Bears swept

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The WVU Tech softball team dropped a pair of games on the road to Point Park University, falling by 4-1 and 9-1 scores.

Former Cabell Midland standout Ashley Boggs went 4-for-6 for the Golden Bears (5-20). Point Park improved to 18-14 with the sweep. Tech is back in action today when it faces Carlow University.
