When Marshall and Illinois State open their football season Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium, both teams will aim to erase the memory of a disappointing 2007 season.
HUNTINGTON - There were a few surprises when Marshall released its first depth chart of the 2008 season Tuesday, but the quarterback order wasn't among them.
Among the true freshmen, Ahmed Shakoor has raised eyebrows at cornerback, enough to land on the second string on Marshall's first depth chart.
HUNTINGTON - In his first teleconference appearance of the season, Marshall coach Mark Snyder declared Monday that "we've wiped the slate clean," and that his team was playing the first of 12 "one-game seasons."
HUNTINGTON - Marshall is bracing for a long season of facing spread offenses that love to throw the ball - but just not yet.
For the first time since rising from Division I-AA, Marshall lost in 2007 to a member of that division, now renamed the Football Championship Subdivision. The Herd is 10-1 in such games since 1997, all in Huntington.
HUNTINGTON - Marshall's goal this fall, as articulated by coach Mark Snyder, is to get back to a bowl game.
