MORGANTOWN - Outgoing West Virginia University president Mike Garrison said under oath that while he did not tell Rich Rodriguez that he didn't believe in buyouts as an incentive to coerce Rodriguez into signing a contract last August, he did at some point tell the former WVU football coach that he would like to explore other options besides a liquidated damages provision.

Joe Manchin and three members of the university's Board of Governors pressured him into signing a new contract before the start of the 2007 season, even though it contained a $4 million buyout clause he didn't want.
