Mother accused of burning 'wimp' into child's neck

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. -- A West Virginia woman has been charged with child abuse and assault after being accused of burning the word "wimp'' into her 6-year-old daughter's neck with a cigarette.

Tammy Smith is charged with five counts of child abuse and five counts of malicious assault, all felonies. The 43-year-old Smith is being held in jail on $50,000 bond. The daughter has been placed in foster care.

Moundsville police Detective Shawn Allman said that the girl told authorities that her mother burned her because she was angry because the child had tripped and fell. He also noted that Smith even dotted the "i.'' An employee of the child's school noticed the burns and contacted state social workers, who contacted local police on Wednesday. The girl has been placed in foster care.

We can only imagine the excruciating pain this poor child endured while her ignorant mother tortured her. There is NO EXCUSE for this horrible act and the mother should receive the maximum jail term possible. And yes, wake up Governor Manchin, protect our children with stricter laws and NO PLEA BARGAINS, but also Wake up West Virginia and stand with us when we rally against child abuse. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing....Edmund Burke

just another example. If West Virginia would nail one child abuser the other abusers would take heed to the example and straighten up. Slapping one on the hand and sending them on their way gives a open invitation to any parent that gets mad at their child. Wake up Gov. Manchin and do something!!

Once convicted, put her in a max security prison, and be sure to post these newspaper accounts of what she did to her child on the 'exercise area' bulletin board for all her sister cell mates to see.
